Lifeguard Swim Suits
Have you ever noticed that lifeguards just look good. They almost always look better than everyone else. Have you ever seen Baywatch? It seems that the work of a lifeguard is to look great first and give safety second. Of course, that isn't true (a joke, in fact), but it gets to the point about lifeguard swimming suits. They need to look great, be comfortable, and be affordable.
Lifeguard Swim Suit Colors
Lifeguard swim suits typically come in three colors. The overwhelming majority of lifeguard swimming suits are red. Red is a great color because it is easy to see. It makes it easy to spot the lifeguard. Choosing the color red for a lifeguard swimsuit is about safety, not just good looks.
The second most popular color is dark blue. Dark blue is just a good looking color. Some lifeguards feel self conscious in bright colors. That may be why dark blue lifeguard swim suits were invented. It is more common to see dark blue colors worn at waterparks than public pools.
The least popular color for lifeguards is black. Sure, black looks really great, but it can often blend in with all the other people trying to look great. It is rare to see a lifeguard wearing black. Some home pool operators will have a black lifeguard swimsuit so that they can wear it for various occasions without it seeming too weird. If you like lifeguard swimsuits, but are not a lifeguard, then black or dark blue are great choices.
One other thing to consider is the nature of dark colors. Dark colors absorb more of the sunlight rays and heat up more. Light colors reflect more of the sunlight and aren't as hot. You can expect that a red lifeguard swimming suit will be less hot than black or dark blue lifeguard suits.
Lifeguard Suits Have Matching Shorts
Women lifeguard swim suits will always come with a matching pair of shorts. There isn't a girl out there that wants to wear a swimsuit all day long up in a high chair, in the sun. The matching shorts are pretty cool. They will often have pockets for keys, an iphone, or things needed like a whistle or a snack. A word of caution, lifeguard short pockets aren't that great for donuts!
Lifeguard Tee Shirts
To cover the swimming suit, the lifeguard will most often wear a tee shirt. The reason is that a shirt keeps the lifeguard from getting “baked alive”. The most common type of shirt is all white with red lettering that says lifeguard in bold red or staff. Many pools or water parks will make customary designs for their staff members. When making a custom shirt, keep in mind that white reflects the most heat and that people should be able to immediately know who the lifeguards are. In other words, try and stick with red and white. Red and white colors will also match the lifeguard swim suits that are available.
To keep your arms from getting fried, there are long sleeve tee shirts. They are also white with red lettering. You might think that you will be too hot in a long sleeve tee shirt, but the opposite is true. The skin heats up and tends to bake the skin. A long sleeve tee shirt will actually feel cooler. The main thing to consider is that the long sleeve tee shirt is thin lightweight material, UV resistant, and white.
Lifeguard Swim Suit Durability
Lifeguard swim suits are made to wear daily. It makes sense. The lifeguard has a job to keep and they need the swimming suit to wear every day. For that reason, the lifeguards swimming suits are made to be more durable than other swimming suits. The material is often a little thicker and the seams are a little stronger.
It all makes sense. Would you make a suit that is to be worn two times per year the same way as a suit that is worn daily? Now, that just might be the difference between Wal-Mart and Speedo and Tyr.
Competitive Spirit of Swimming
Swimming is really one of the best sports out there. There are few injuries. It is good on the joints and it is really one of the most fun things to do. The sport itself is born in high school, middle school, and college. The sport may not continue into adulthood, but several other things make it meaningful. The competitive spirit and hard work ethic continue into adulthood to help people excel at whatever they do.
In any case, most competitive swimmers learn to enjoy the pool. Into adulthood, they can enjoy going to the pool and working out. The real bonus is that there are less injuries because water is a no impact sport.
Competitive Swim Suits
A good competitive swim suit will make you faster. It may seem impossible, but consider that the top swimsuit companies have spent millions of dollars on research on how to produce the fastest swim suit. The swim suits have been drawn in 3d on the computer to figure out the best pattern to use to get the most streamlined fit. Chemists have been hired to figure out how to make the fabric repel the water. The suits have been carefully made of mesh to make sure that they are ultra light.
What happens with a competitive suit is that the suit will reduce muscle vibrations. The form of the suit will hold your muscles in such a way that it actually helps to propel you and reduces muscle fatigue. The swimming suit companies call this design hydrofoil.
The seams of competitive swimsuits are ultrasonically sealed with a special kind of tape. Regular sewn seams cause drag. The competitive suits of today are ultrasonically welded at every seam.
Pricing of Competitive Swim Suits
You can expect to pay around $300.00 for a great competitive swim suit. It may seem like a lot to pay. We agree with you. However, when you take into account all the time that someone spends training for competition and the price of the suit is not all that much. In swimming, a fraction of a second can mean a lot. Why would you train for hundreds of hours and not spend the few hundred dollars to have the most advantage you can?
Look at other sports and hobbies. A musician will spend thousands of dollars on a good instrument. In many cases, the cost isn't even warranted for the student's ability. What happens to many students, in music, is that a fine instrument makes the student feel more confident. The student will often feel more committed to the instrument and practice more. Why? They do not feel like they are being held back at all. In the back of some musicians mind, is that their playing is inferior because of the instrument. A fine instrument removes all doubt and the student starts practicing more.
In competitive swimming the idea is the same. A great suit will add confidence. In many cases, the student will practice more and feel more committed to the swimming sport. That is why it is such a great investment. For a few hundred dollars, you get more commitment and more confidence. How else can you get that so easily?
