Women lifeguard swim suits will always come with a matching pair of shorts. There isn't a girl out there that wants to wear a swimsuit all day long up in a high chair, in the sun. It all makes sense. Would you make a suit that is to be worn two times per year the same way as a suit that is worn daily? Now, that just might be the difference between Wal-Mart and Speedo and Tyr.

Why would you train for hundreds of hours and not spend the few hundred dollars to have the most advantage you can?
Look at other sports and hobbies. A musician will spend thousands of dollars on a good instrument. In many cases, the cost isn't even warranted for the student's ability. What happens to many students, in music, is that a fine instrument makes the student feel more confident. The student will often feel more committed to the instrument and practice more. Why? They do not feel like they are being held back at all. In the back of some musicians mind, is that their playing is inferior because of the instrument. A fine instrument removes all doubt and the student starts practicing more.
In competitive swimming the idea is the same. A great suit will add confidence. In many cases, the student will practice more and feel more committed to the swimming sport. That is why it is such a great investment. For a few hundred dollars, you get more commitment and more confidence. How else can you get that so easily?
